alright, so it's still used in most devices which can be connected to a television, so it's not quite dead, it's just in a coma with declining health :P
the difference between NTSC and ATSC?
video encoding: M(NTSC), MPEG-2(ATSC)
color encoding: YIQ/YUV(NTSC), YCbCr(ATSC)
screen resolutions: 480i(NTSC), everything except 1080p(ATSC)
frame rates: 59.94Hz(NtSC), all standard frame rates(ATSC)
